A mother makes breast milk ice cream to ease the discomfort of her baby’s teething

Teething is one of the first signs that babies are growing and that they will soon be able to consume solid foods. However, this process is not without annoying symptoms, such as swollen gums and pain.

Some babies are also inapetent and irritable, others are restless, have difficulty sleeping, and cry frequently. Therefore, it is normal for parents to resort to different remedies to relieve teething discomfort.

A simple 100% natural solution

A mother from Ohio, in the United States, has gone one step further and has come up with an excellent idea to alleviate the symptoms of her baby’s teething: prepare an ice cream with breast milk. Tasia Blackwell, which is what the mother is called, shared her trick on Facebook and it immediately went viral.

This mother was aware of the dangers of teethers and toys to relieve teething discomfort, which could not only contain the toxic bisphenol-A but also other compounds such as triclosan and triclocarban, classified as endocrine disruptors that can cause problems in the development of babies and even affect their nervous and immune systems.

She also knew that teething cookies and cold foods can only be used when solid feeding has already been introduced, so they are not a remedy to turn to when the baby is still exclusively breastfeeding.

So this mother turned to a completely natural solution. All he did was extract the milk and pour it into an ice cream mold, place it in the fridge and wait until it had the consistency of ice cream.

If you dare to do it,  remember to take extreme care with the hygiene of the mold you use and do not forget that you should not refreeze the milk, once it has thawed. You can place a stick of the kind used in popsicles at the end of the milk cube, so that the baby can better hold the ice cream.

Why does this remedy work?

The cold has the ability to anesthetize the gums, thus quickly relieving pain. By having a vasoconstrictor action, it reduces the amount of blood flow to the area, which reduces inflammation locally and relieves the sensation of pain.

However, we must not forget that breastfeeding itself is one of the most effective remedies to relieve teething discomfort, which is due to the fact that physical contact with the mother reduces the level of stress and anxiety in babies.

Different studies have shown that when babies are breastfed their pain level decreases as they feel more secure and calm. That is why some little ones want to suckle more during teethingAdditionally, the movement involved in sucking also helps relieve pain.
